U13’s Win Down LGFA A Championship

Huge congratulations to our U13 Ladies who this weekend defeated Liatroim Fontenoys to lift the Down LGFA A Championship in a battling performance, played out in front of a fantastic crowd who gathered at Dromara GAC.

Carryduff GAC U13 Ladies Champions

The game started at a high pace but with few scores. In difficult conditions, with a swirling wind, both teams kicked a number of wides, and Liatroim played a strong defensive unit to nullify waves of Carryduff attack.

At Half Time, it was clear the game could go either way and it was going to take a huge effort from our girls to get over the line. Gladly, that’s exactly what we got and shortly after half time, Anna McArdle stepped up to coolly slot away a penalty after a foul in the box.

This settled the girls further and soon, Cara Connolly gave the Duff the gap that was needed when she took advantage of a loose ball in the box to score a close range goal. Keeping the work rate high was the order of the day. The girls fought valiantly for every kick out and created a number of turnovers which allowed us to stay on the front foot and for the scores to finally come. A goal and a point (from free-kick) from Rose Horisk stretched the lead – with the girls finishing up with a convincing 8 point difference at the final whistle with a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-3.

The well-deserved celebrations started on the final whistle as the girls and their families took their chance to grab a keepsake photo with the brand new trophy.

Well done girls and management.

Scorers: Cara Connolly (1-1); Rose Horisk (1-1); Anna McArdle (1-0); Isa McCarron (0-2); Evie McHugh (0-1)
