Match Report – Tuesday 14th April – Under 12 Hurlers v St John’s @ Lough Moss
The toughest test of the year to date awaited the boys on Tuesday night. Visiting from the West of the city St John’s came and were ready for action. From the off it was obvious they meant business and wave after wave of menacing attacks cut through Carryduff with merciless guile. The lifts were crisp, the passes precise and the energy unrelenting. Hunting in packs they broke our resistance and stifled our best. Odd forays up field brought no joy with an alert keeper operating as sweeper and demonstrating dynamite deliveries. It was relentless and the half time whistle came with the relief normally reserved for a banjaxed boxer on an 8 count when the bell rings.
Half time allowed a reconfiguration and a sharpening of focus. The boys knew they were in a battle and to their credit came out ready to fight. The fire returned and a contest created, every ball was fought for, every tackle executed with elan, every pass was earned.
The outcome may not have changed but the pride had been restored. If lessons learned are heeded it will stand to the side in future.
