Feile Camogs shine in Portaferry

The Carryduff Camogs travelled to Portaferry today for the Down Camigie Feile. After a strong start to the league on Tuesday night the girls took that momentum into Saturday’s competition. Starting with a bruising opener against Keilef Ben Derg, where the girls’ endeavour and teamwork eventually paid off. An Riocth were next. This game proved to be the real test of the afternoon. A very closely contested affair, Carryduff got under the skin of the Kilkeel girls and edged the win to go 2 wins from 2. With their last game in the group the team could afford to use as much of the panel as possible and came away with an entertaining draw against Warrenpoint. With about twenty minutes to recover and re-focus the Carryduff Camogs went into the final with renewed zeal and determination, they were not going to let this opportunity pass them by. An Riocth started strongly and took the first score but from then on there was only ever going to be one winner. Carryduff’s work-rate, team work and inter-play meant that An Riocth just could not live with them. The goals, points and relentless energy Carryduff displayed broke the oppositions spirit and there was no coming back for them. So late into a golden Portaferry evening the final whistle blew and the Camogs of Carryduff celebrated with screams of delight at their achievement. The girls played some amazing Camigie throughout the day and were well deserved champions of Division 3 Feile.
