Match Report from the Down LGFA Under 14 A Championship Quarter Final > Carryduff GAC vs Bredagh GAC
Both teams and sets of coaches were eagerly looking forward to this tie of the round fixture played under lights on Tuesday evening past.
Pitch 2 was is great condition, the wind hardly counted at all and both sets of supporters had ring side views which all combined to bring a magical effect of sorts.
Once the Referee, Kevin Kelly got proceedings underway, the match turned out to be real championship football at it’s best which reminded people that Gaelic football can be a game of beauty.
Carryduff were keen to keep the scoreline down to a manageable level at the start as each team played sensible football. The BT9 team took the lead which they never lost but they could never get ahead enough as both sides battled away fiercely.
They each played for their jerseys, tempestuous at times, full of fire and the occasional brimstone but in an magnificent way as the fragmented but stout hearted supporters looked on.
There was disgruntlement amongst the followers and not much gruntlement either which added to the drama. No team could embrace the concept of defeat.
Both sides had spells of supremacy and both sides looked like they would prevail.
Bredagh knew they had their work cut out as the BT8ers never shirked and were causing them alarm all over the pitch. But like any Bredagh team, they are renowned for their stubborn courage to keep the scores tallying up.
There were times when the balance of the battle seem to have tilted but the team at the wrong end of the scoreline refused to die. If a couple of balls had been a couple of centimetres inside the uprights, it could have changed the outcome. Carryduff so nearly did win, disappointment at the final whistle is too pale a word.
The Carryduff players and management were all exhausted at the end up.
Their performance will give our coaches great heart for their teams overall play, they couldn’t have wished for better. The team never lost heart. There were so many players of the match, all effective.
These are young players and they were great.
