The Carnival is being described as a “whole-community initiative” and is being facilitated by Carryduff Elim Church. It will involve children from the local schools, churches, youth organisations, sports groups and community groups. Local businesses will also be taking part by showcasing their companies as part of the Cavalcade.
Pastor George Ritchie commented, “As a church we wish to enable people to come together to celebrate and give thanks for the many positives in our local community and to invest in its future.”
The theme of the Carnival is – “BUILDING A TEAM OF CHAMPIONS.”
The Carnival, which will take place on Saturday 26th May is promising to be a fantastic day for everyone – starting at 11am and finishing at 6pm.
The day will start with a procession which will begin at the football field convenient to the Elim Church. The motorised cavalcade will leave the church car park and will feature, amongst other things, two limousines, one of which will carry the oldest resident in Carryduff and the other vehicle will carry the oldest married couple.
“This is to acknowledge our senior residents and the example they set in the community,” said Pastor George.
The parade will be led by The Friendship Band, who are well known throughout Ireland, (and further afield), not only for their musical prowess but their work in bringing people together through music.
With Church Road being closed the atmosphere will be that of a fleadh with traditional Irish dancers and musicians, Ulster-Scots dancers and music, ballet dancers and Gospel music – “something for everyone.”
The children will be well catered for with all the usual “fun day” entertainments like inflatables, face painting and much more.
‘Sports Uniting Communities’ will also be present on the Carryduff Primary School site to give opportunity for the children and young people to get a taste of GAA, Football and Rugby.
The old Shopping Centre Centre carpark on Church Road will be the main venue.
Throughout the day there will be live music with a very special appearance by the world renowned Tommy Sands; a farmers market; a static exhibition of WW2 military vehicles that have a historical connection with Carryduff. Local vehicle enthusiasts have promised to turn up with their “pride and joys.”
The grand finale will be a performance by the Belfast Community Gospel Choir led by Marie Lacey. This choir is now internationally recognised as one of the best in its genre.
Pastor Ritchie said it will be an outstanding day and one which will be yet another community initiative upon which the people of Carryduff, with all their amazing diversity, can build on for a great future together.
