St Brigid is one of Irelands best known Irish saints. She was born around 453 AD and died in 524, making 2024 the 1500 anniversary year of her death.

St Brigid’s feast day marks the traditional beginning of spring in Ireland according to the Celtic calendar. Feb 1st was originally celebrated as a pagan festival called Imbolc, marking the midpoint between the winter equinox and the spring solstice and the arrival of longer, warmer days.

Feb 1st is when the snowdrops appear on the landscape, the daffodils start to bloom, the evening start to lengthen and the gloom of winter goes on its way.

According to Irish myth, there were three sister goddesses named Brigid: the goddess of poetry, the goddess of healing, and the goddess of agriculture.
