Carryduff – v – Attical

St. Patrick’s Park, Newcasstle

Chastened by their opening round defeat to Tullylish, a focussed Carryduff produced the goods to press past Attical on Friday evening. James Guinness missed the first opportunity of the game and Attical had the openiing score from RyanSloan two mintes in. Christopher Morgan failed to covert an Attical free in third minute. Guinness opened Carryduff’s account int the fifth minute and, when  played in by Ronan Lawlor a minute later, finished to the back of the Attical net.

Tight Carryduff defending pressured Jonathan Morgan into shooting wide nine minutes in, and in control at the rear, Carryduff’s forwards pressed on. Michael McGrath played Ronan Lawlor in for a fine point  (10th) and James Guinness (11th) extended the advantage McGrath acted as povider again for McGonigle who converted in the thirteenth minute.

A minute later DonalMcKeever ‘s shot on goal was blocked well. Carryduff  ‘keeper stepped up to kick the 45metre free into the breezbut his is effort fell short. James Guinness kicked wide  (16th) before adding Carryduff’s fifth point (18th). Joe McFlynn converted a Carryduff free (21st) before Christopher Morgan converted Attical’s second score  (23

Carryduff finished the last five minutes of the half strongly with points from MGrath (25th), Daniel Guinnes (28th) and James Guinness (27th and 29th) giving them a commanding advantage of 1-09 to-02.

Attical opened the second half with a little bit of bluster. Ryan Sloan failed to convert afree in the first minute but Jonathan Morgan pointed two minutes in.

However, this only served to provoke a response from Carryduff, Owen McCabe pointing  (34th) andtbe  acting as provider, setting Sean McGonigle up for Carryduff ‘ s second goal (35th).

A number of Carryduff substitutions appeared initially to impact on their cohesion and Attical enjoyed a puple patch with a point from Jonathan Morgan  (34th) which he followed with a goal (41st) and points from Kieran O Hare (45th) and Christopher Morgan (51st).

However any possibility of a resurrection was quickly snuffed out as Carryduff had goals in quick succession from Donal McKeever (52nd) and JoeMcFlynn (53rd) flickingRona Lawlor’s 45metre free to the net.

Sean McGonigle (54th) added a further Carryduff point and late substitute Ruairi McKay got good value for his five minutes game-time, baging two pointsin thefinal stagesof the game.

Christopher Morgan kicked the finalscore of the game  (60th) for Attical but Carryduff ran out convincing winners on a score line of 4-15 to 1-06.
