Week four of the East Down U14 Boys football leagues saw both teams involved in exciting and competitive games.

In Division One, Carryduff travelled to Downpatrick to face an unbeaten RGU side and this was a very physical and tight encounter. Carryduff got themselves in front, but their hosts fought back in the second half and it took some resolute defending from the Duff to see out the game. The final whistle blew with Carryduff victorious on a score line of 2-11 to 3-6.

In Division Two, Carryduff’s young charges came flying out of the blocks against St John’s Drumnaquoile. Playing an attractive brand of fast, attacking football, they hit no less than six goals in the first half, the scores shared between brothers Oran and Ronan Donaldson. St John’s hit some nice scores of their own and although the Duff led by 11 points at the break, it was clear that there was plenty of life left in this game.

So it proved, as St John’s came roaring back in the second half, hitting 3-5 without reply to take a firm grip on the game. It was at this point that Carryduff really showed their character, hitting the next four points to regain the lead as the clock ticked down. There was, however, to be one final twist, as the visitors broke away to hit a last minute goal and emerge victorious on a score line of 5-11 to 6-6. Disappointment for the boys, but great experience for them of a really compelling and competitive match.

There are no games this weekend, a chance for the squad to regroup and rest up those who are carrying niggles and knocks. Training continues on Thursday at 7pm in Lough Moss with further updates to follow through teamer.
